The AMSP has been running enrichment events based on the topic of the environment and the impacts of climate change, most recently at Ferryhill Business and Enterprise College where we delivered a full day of sessions across the KS3 and KS4 range. The sessions focused on sea level changes and modelling, along with the dangers of assuming linear models for data sets and the possibilities of making erroneous predictions based on such assumptions.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) website has recently published its Sixth Assessment Report, which is a summary synthesis of over 13,000 peer-reviewed scientific articles on the projected impacts of climate change. The website and the report make for a worrying and sobering read. Regardless, however, of the implications, it’s a timely and relevant resource as the implications will directly affect students in their lifetimes.

Both the website and the report are full to the brim of statistical data and analysis and can easily be adapted to lessons for KS3, KS4 or KS5. They’re well worth a look at and would be a useful resource for the teaching of maths and real-world issues.
