Teachers of maths at A level can now register for our Next Steps for Your A level Students free one-day course which provides guidance on how best to support your students to make a successful transition to undergraduate study. The course also covers how you can help your students to prepare for university admissions tests, and provides ideas for how to widen their experience of maths.

The course will run twice, at the University of Birmingham in December 2021 and at the University of Oxford in January 2022, and sessions include:

  • Mathematics for University Admissions Tests, where you’ll look at pre-university tests such as STEP, MAT and TMUA and how your school can help students to prepare for them.
  • Mathematics at University, where you’ll see which type of degree courses benefit from students having studied level 3 maths.
  • Wider Mathematical Development, where you’ll explore mathematical extracurricular and enrichment activities that you can use to engage your students in maths activities beyond the classroom.

Next Steps for Your A level Students is free for teachers working in state-funded schools, colleges and academies. A subsidy of £200 is available to support teachers from state-funded schools and colleges in attending this course. If you’re a state-funded teacher in a Priority Area, you’re eligible for a £250 subsidy. Teachers from independent schools may apply, but will only be granted places if there is availability.
