Our enrichment day for Year 10 students at the University of Essex filled up quicker than any before, and that wasn’t just down to Covid restrictions! Planned and replanned, with multiple risk assessments and many last minute changes, Thursday 13 January 2022 saw the first large Year 10 event take place at the university for a long time – and it was definitely worth all the hassle!

Located in a lecture theatre in Essex Business School, the students enjoyed code-breaking a variety of codes, had a go at creating some complicated origami shapes in teams, and were given an insight into the fourth dimension and beyond to conclude the day. The students also enjoyed a tour of the university during their lunchbreak.

We received some great feedback from teachers on behalf of their students, including:

  • Students enjoyed the origami session and to have the opportunity to apply the skills themselves.
  • We collectively really liked the coding session.
  • The highlight of the day for the pupils was a tour of the campus and all it offers. For some it was a real eye opener and a wonderful opportunity to give our pupils an opportunity to focus on their next steps and what university can offer them.

We’re running a similar event for Year 10 students in Cambridge on Monday 28 March 2022, titled Take Maths Further! – Year 10 Enrichment Day, and we have lots more planned in the East of England region over the summer term. Keep an eye on our regional events page!
