The AMSP aims to encourage students from state-funded schools and colleges to apply to study maths, and other mathematically-demanding subjects, at leading universities.

Some university maths departments include university maths admission tests in their conditional offers. The tests they may require are:

  • STEP (Sixth Term Examination Paper) Mathematics
  • MAT (Mathematics Admission Test)
  • TMUA (Test of Mathematics for University Admission)

We provide support for these tests, including professional development for teachers, practice resources, and events for students and teachers.

We also work directly with several universities to provide additional local support for higher-level mathematical problem solving and preparation for maths admission tests. This is arranged by our local Area Coordinators, and ranges from one-day intensive problem-solving conferences or revision days, to a programme of weekly twilight sessions.

The AMSP would like to work with more universities to develop problem-solving skills and support for students taking STEP, MAT and/or TMUA. We have considerable experience of helping institutions to establish their provision. We can also help with coordinating and publicising the offer to local schools and colleges.

If you would like to discuss how we could help you establish local, or even national provision, please contact [email protected].
