Bring the world of machine learning and AI into your A level Mathematics classroom through the maths and statistics that make it possible.

Our Bringing the Maths of Data Science and AI into the A level Mathematics classroom blended course helps A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics teachers explore the maths and statistics that underpin machine learning and AI. You will develop practical ideas for classroom teaching through a mixture of online sessions and a face-to-face study day. During the course, you will investigate how data analysis, predictive modelling and AI connect to familiar curriculum content.

The course is for teachers who want to understand how ideas from machine learning and AI relate to A level maths subjects, or who want to make greater use of technology-based tools in teaching data and statistics. Using tools such as Desmos and Python, you will explore data, build predictive models, and examine how algorithms work, while gaining resources and activities to enrich students’ learning.

The course will run over two months, and teachers will be eligible for a subsidy of £350 to contribute towards travel and cover costs for attending the study day.

4 online sessions and 1 study day

The four online sessions will be held via Zoom, supported by a face-to-face study day at various locations. The technology tasks will use free web-based platforms such as Desmos, Kaggle or Google Colab.

The DfE provides funding so that places on this course are free to teachers from state-funded schools and colleges in England. For those who do not meet this criterion, the course fee of £250 applies.

Priority will be given to teachers in state-funded schools and colleges in England. Where we have spare capacity, we extend our support to other teachers and operate a waiting list.

All teachers from state-funded schools/colleges in England can claim £350 to contribute towards travel/cover costs if they attend the face-to-face study day.

Any teacher who is interested in how the content of A level Mathematics/Further Mathematics is used in machine learning/AI, or who wishes to make great use of technology-based tools in their teaching of data and statistics.
