COURSE OVERVIEW
Build confidence and expertise in delivering the Pure aspect of A level Mathematics with this expert-led year-long professional development course.
Our Teaching A level Mathematics (TAM) course has been designed for teachers new to teaching A level Mathematics, or those looking to strengthen their subject knowledge and teaching practice.
You will take part in interactive discussions and collaborative workshops with fellow A level maths teachers. Each study day focuses on the development of a mathematical theme such as trigonometry or calculus. There is also a strong focus on pedagogy, covering themes such as questioning techniques, the use of technology, multiple representations, and differentiation.
You will also benefit from a formative lesson observation, which will include feedback from one of our specialist course tutors. To participate in the TAM course, you therefore must be teaching AS/A level Mathematics throughout the academic year. This needs to be at least two hours/lessons each week and include teaching some pure maths topics.
Throughout the course, you’ll have access to high-quality course-specific teaching and learning resources, designed by maths teachers who understand the challenges and opportunities within the classroom.
6 in-person study days and a developmental school visit
You can choose from various locations across England for our in-person study days. There is one cohort per academic year, and it starts in September and runs throughout the year.
You will have two years of access to course-specific resources online via MEI’s learning platform, Integral.

Study Schedule
“This has been one of the most invaluable and comprehensive CPD courses I have ever attended. I have gained so many small hints and tips that I have been able to apply in my own classroom and teaching practice, and others which have got me thinking bigger picture. I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to work on mathematics with other like-minded people – something which I think we as maths teachers don’t do enough of.”
“Brilliant course delivered by experts in their field. Ideas that I haven’t thought about since first learning them explained again in a clearer way, which I can relay to my students.”
“It made me question my own mathematics and look deeper into links between different topics and bridging the gap from GCSE to A level maths”
