Blended networking

Tuesday 12th January 2021

Blended learning in the current climate was the theme of the recent Teacher Network in the SW3 area, covering Dorset, South Wiltshire and Frome. We looked at research carried out by the UCL Institute of Education on remote learning that took place in maths in the latter part of the first lockdown, and discussed ways to address the findings and recommendations in our own establishments. A great conversation was had between regular network attendees, and a few newcomers too, and we all left with some ideas to better juggle the plethora of blended learning scenarios that we are currently facing.

A key recommendation to come out of the session was to map our A Level Mathematics videos, which are currently available free of charge to schools and colleges that are registered with the AMSP on their Integral accountOpens a new window, to your current scheme of learning for those isolating. If your school or college isn't yet registered with the AMSP, you can do so now on the AMSP website. The Further Mathematics videos, which have been freely available for some time, can be mapped to your Further Mathematics scheme too.

Our next Teacher Network in SW3 will take place on Wednesday 13 January 2021 at 4.15pm. We’ll be looking at A New Way to Teach Quadratics with guest speaker Ieuan Pearse, the Assistant Hub Lead for the Boolean Maths Hub. This session will be beneficial to both KS4 and KS5 maths teachers, so multiple teachers from maths departments are encouraged to sign up.

Elsewhere in the region, look out for a series of Teacher Networks in early 2021 that will be reviewing the October 2020 A level Mathematics papers. We'll email you details of these events when they are open for registration.
