Admissions Tests: STEP 1 examination discontinued

Tuesday 20th October 2020

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the STEP 1 exam did not take place this year. Following a review of the exam session, Cambridge AssessmentOpens a new window have taken the decision to discontinue the STEP 1 examination.

There will therefore be no STEP 1 test session from 2021 onwards. This does not affect the STEP 2 and STEP 3 examinations and these will continue to be administered in June for entry to study undergraduate Mathematics at Cambridge University. Several universities who have reduced offers based on STEP 1 have not yet changed the information on their websites. The announcement was not made in time for students who had planned to sit the STEP 1 examination to enter for either the MAT or the TMUA. MEI will continue to monitor university admissions requirements and will plan programmes of student support accordingly.
