Statistics with love

Tuesday 12th January 2021

Our online A level courses in statistics have been very popular over the past year.

We’ve decided to focus our upcoming North East teacher statistics online teacher conference on topics that local teachers always want to know more about, including the Binomial and Normal distribution, Hypothesis testing, Correlation/Regression, and Large Data Sets. The conference will be delivered as online twilight sessions from January through to April, and each session will host a special guest who is an expert on statistics from our team of mathematicians and statisticians.

I hope you’ll join us at our North East teacher statistics online teacher conference. You can find out more information and register for the sessions on the AMSP website:

With statistics being so different from maths, I have the impression that most teachers were divided into two camps for most of my teaching career. This is just my impression, not a statistical fact:

But I have sensed a change in the air with the new A level specification, which has an emphasis on interpretation instead of calculations. More and more teachers are becoming very passionate about statistics and many teachers are getting engaged with teaching Large Data Sets at KS3/4. The Covid-19 pandemic has put a spotlight on the statistical literacy of the general population and even professionals. There’s a long way to go, but I think we’ve made a step in the right direction.
