Regular Problem Solving classes move online!

Thursday 12th November 2020

We’re a few weeks into our first ever online Regular Problem Solving course and, so far, it’s proving to be very successful! With over 30 students attending each week, from schools across the North East and beyond, both myself and my assistant tutor, Sam James, have been very impressed by the perseverance and ingenuity shown by the students.

In the classes, we look at problems in algebra, geometry, number theory and more, with students working together in small groups in breakout rooms. The problems are aimed at students in Year 12 and Year 13 who are considering studying mathematical subjects at university, especially if they are expecting to have to sit entrance exams.

The course is being held in place of similar face-to-face courses that we have run in previous years, and the online format seems to be working well. We are expecting to run another course in the new year – most likely online again – which will be targeted specifically at students who are preparing for the Sixth Term Examination Paper (STEP) in the summer. The current course is still open for applications so, if you have students who might be interested, they are welcome to join in! Please email me or take a look on the AMSP website for more details.
