This week marks the 100th group of teachers starting our Teaching A level Mathematics (TAM) course.

TAM started life in 2004, funded by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, and since then it has helped over 1,700 teachers through their early years of teaching maths for A level.

14 years on, teachers in state-funded schools and colleges can enrol on a TAM course through the AMSP, furthering its long history of supporting teachers. Thanks to DfE funding, these teachers are entitled to have their course fees fully reimbursed. Those in AMSP Priority Areas are eligible for further subsidies, enabling more teachers to participate. These subsidies cover the full course fees, and may also contribute towards the costs of teacher cover, travel expenses, and the support provided by schools and colleges to participants.

MEI Teacher Support Programme Leader Bernard Murphy commended the milestone, saying: “It’s been a real privilege working with talented colleagues and hundreds of committed teachers on the TAM course over the last 14 years. To spend time in their classrooms and hearing them describe how the course has helped them to develop as teachers has been wonderful. Thank you to all those teachers for bringing so much energy and enthusiasm to the course.

Good luck to the 100th cohort of TAM students, and here’s to 100 more!
