Applications have opened for Teaching A level Mathematics (TAM), a sustained professional development course designed to support teaching skills and subject knowledge in teachers new to AS/A level Mathematics.

This year-long course will develop confidence with the concepts explored in AS/A level Mathematics, and help teachers to deliver more engaging and relevant lessons. TAM includes eight study days, two formative lessons observations, textbooks to support study and access to online teaching and learning resources.

TAM has been designed to support teachers of GCSE Mathematics who wish to teach A level for the first time. However, it is equally relevant to teachers with some experience who wish to deepen their subject knowledge and gain new ideas.

Only teachers from state-funded schools and colleges are eligible for TAM. The course is fee is £600, but all teachers who complete the course will have this reimbursed in its entirety. Course delegates will also receive a £300 subsidy to contribute towards staff cover and travel costs. If you’re in a Priority Area, you are eligible for an additional subsidy of £300 (£600 in total) for further support.

TAM has a long history of supporting teachers. It was first run in 2004, and the AMSP and MEI celebrated TAM‘s 100th cohort of students in 2018. It has supported over 1,700 teachers through their formative early years teaching AS/A level Mathematics. Like all AMSP professional development, the course holds the NCETM CPD Standard
