COURSE OVERVIEW
Developing students’ problem-solving skills and introducing university admissions tests.
Our Setting Out in Problem Solving course is for Year 12 students studying A level Mathematics or Further Mathematics who are eager to enhance their problem-solving skills. The course will also explore the range of university admissions tests required for some universities to study maths or a related subject.
The course helps students develop effective approaches to mathematical problem-solving with unfamiliar questions. Students will be introduced to a variety of university admissions tests, highlighting the differences between them and explaining which tests are required for specific courses. Students explore and answer mock questions from several admissions tests, identifying transferable strategies along the way.
1 online study session
The course comprises a single 90-minute online session with some follow-up materials.
Setting Out in Problem Solving runs throughout the academic year in the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms.

The course is suitable for any Year 12 A level Mathematics student with an enquiring mind who wishes to begin to develop their problem-solving ability at A level and beyond.
The course is particularly suitable for students who are interested in finding out about admissions tests as part of a university offer.
The DfE provides funding so that places on this course are free to students from state-funded schools and colleges in England. Other students are not accepted onto this course.
Places on this course are limited. Early applications are encouraged. Over-subscribed courses will operate a waiting list.
We have undertaken an assessment of the necessary safeguards for this session.
Participants will have opportunities to interact with presenters, but won’t be able to interact with each other.
