Overview

Maths Picnic is a fun educational challenge for Year 9 students which tests problem-solving and teamwork skills. Teams of four students will test their maths skills with our all-you-can-eat picnic of problems!

The Picnic is similar in format to the Y10 Maths Feast, but is a stand-alone event, not part of a national event.

  • Improve problem-solving skills using recreational maths
  • Improve teamwork and communication skills

Who will benefit from attending?

Maths Picnic is open to all Year 9 students who want to improve their mathematical and teamwork skills.

Content

There are several rounds requiring different skills and strategies for success. Each event takes about three hours, with a refreshment break, and awards will be given for good teamwork and for the winning team of each round.

Materials and Equipment

Calculators and equipment such as rulers and protractors are not permitted - this competition is based on your brain power alone

Frequently Asked Questions

You can apply to bring up to 3 teams per school; each pair of teams MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult who will mark for another school. For additional teams, this adult may be a sixth former.
