Year 9 Maths Picnic - Sandwell & Dudley
Overview
The Maths Picnic is a fun educational challenge for Year 9 students which tests problem-solving and teamwork skills. Based on previous Maths Feasts, teams of four students will test their maths skills with our all-you-can-eat picnic of problems. There are several rounds requiring different skills and strategies for success and there are prizes for the teams who take the biggest bites!
Aims
- Improve problem-solving skills using recreational maths
- Improve teamwork and communication skills
Who will benefit from attending?
The Picnic is suitable for all higher-achieving Year 9 students who want to improve their mathematical and teamwork skills. This event is only open to schools in Sandwell and Dudley.
Content
What's on the menu? Well, that would be telling...
We change the format and content of the Maths Picnic every year to keep the challenge exciting. However, we promise that content will be familiar or accessible to most Year 9's and could include both recreational and more traditional maths problems.
Materials and Equipment
Calculators and equipment such as rulers and protractors are not permitted - this competition is based on your brain power alone!
Other Information
All schools will be assigned one team on application whilst spaces are available. A second team will be assigned to those schools who have asked for one, on application, two weeks before the event if space is available. This will be done on a first come first serve basis.
Eligibility
Year 9 students only, organised into groups of four. Each team must be accompanied by a teacher or teaching assistant. Schools entering two teams must bring one responsible adult per team; however, in the case of the additional teams, this could be sixth former if an 11-18 school.
