A Level Maths and Beyond

This event is suitable for students studying A level Maths and Further Maths and their teachers. The day will be full of inspiration, information and interaction with presenters offering information about university entrance exams, where maths can take you and a particular focus on problem solving.
Students studying other STEM subjects without maths are also welcome to apply and may find the day beneficial.
Aims
- Inspiration on where Maths and other STEM subjects can take you
- Information about University entrance exams
- To gain experience in answering challenging problem solving questions
- To inform teachers about requirements for University Admissions Tests and to discuss exemplar questions
Content
There will be three workshops for the students to take part in during the day. These will be:
University Entrance Tests - This workshop will aim to give students experience of the type of questions on university entrance tests such as MAT/TMUA, and to equip them with the tools to be able to access this type of question.
Problem Solving - Using the Liverpool Fun Maths Roadshow material, students will be challenged to answer a variety of problem solving questions.
Team Relay - A chance to use your problem solving skills in a competitive enviroment! We will be using material from the UKMT team challenge.
Materials and Equipment
Students will need paper, pen and calculator for some of the sessions
Students should bring a packed lunch or money for the canteen

10.00 Introductory Talk: Preparing for University - In this talk James Morris will give an introduction to UCAS, how to search for various degrees and the idea that not all maths degrees are the same and then give an introduction to STEP/MAT/TMUA with the details of the requirements for each.
