Year 12 Problem Solving Conference at the UEA
NorwichOverview
This conference will be of interest to year 12 A level maths students and their teachers who are looking to explore mathematical problem-solving more deeply. It is intended to be particularly suitable for students who are not taking further maths, but may be interested in degree studies in STEM subjects.
Aims
- To provide students with an opportunity to increase their depth of mathematical understanding and so gain confidence in attempting more challenging questions and problems.
- To allow students to discuss and try out problem solving strategies, to think about different ways of looking at example problems and how to approach writing solutions.
Who will benefit from attending?
AS/A level maths students who wish to develop their problem solving skills in order to apply for a maths-rich undergraduate degree will benefit from attending this conference.
To maximise the number of students who can benefit, it is not expected that all students will be accompanied by teachers. Our staff all hold an enhanced DBS, and a full risk assessment will be made available to teachers. However teachers are welcome to attend and take part.
Content
Students will attend a variety of workshops that will cover writing and presenting solutions, working in a group and getting started with problem solving. They will also have the opportunity to solve maths problems from a variety of competitions and admissions tests.
Eligibility
Students and teachers from state funded schools can attend free of charge. Each school can have up to 15 students attending.
Applications must be made by class teachers only.
