Kent and Medway Summer Conference - Improving Transition to A Level Maths

The Kent and Medway Maths Conference is an annual event where the AMSP and the Kent and Medway Maths Hub come together to provide outstanding professional development opportunities for teachers of maths in Kent and Medway. The conference is taking place online this year and is running as a series of twilight workshops (16.15 to 17.45) from Monday 11th July 2022 until Thursday 14th July 2022.

Progression to A level maths is very difficult for some students. What can we, as teachers, do in the classroom to make this transition easier?

Join us to consider how we can develop tour students' mathematical thinking skills, particularly with higher tier GCSE topics that are vital for students who go on to study AS/A level Mathematics  and Further Mathematics.

  • To consider the teaching of higher tier GCSE maths and AS/Alevel maths in the context of transition to level 3 study
  • To improve student transition to A level maths

Who will benefit from attending?

Teachers who wish to consider how their teaching of higher tier GCSE maths and AS/A level maths could benefit student transition to level 3 study.

This workshop will focus on supporting teachers to develop their students' mathematical thinking skills, particularly as they introduce higher tier GCSE topics and as they progress to study AS/A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics.

It will help to develop strategies and ideas for taking a piece of mathematics and extending it, exploring the connections, deepening understanding and developing fluency.
