Why Further Mathematics? Year 10 Enrichment Day

Overview

The Advanced Mathematics Support Programme invites you to a day of stimulating mathematical activities designed to help students see the usefulness and fun of maths beyond GCSE.

Throughout the day, students will take part in a variety of workshops, focusing on different areas of Level 3 mathematics.

Schools may bring up to 6 students and an accompanying teacher free of charge.

Aims

  • To offer students a taste of mathematics beyond GCSE
  • To encourage students to continue to take maths beyond GCSE
  • To have fun working on a variety of maths problems and learning about new areas of maths

Who will benefit from attending?

Any Year 10 students who are considering taking Maths at Level 3, whether it be AS/A-Level Mathematics, Further Mathematics or Core Maths.

09:15 - 09:45 Arrival and registration

09:45 - 10:00 Welcome and introduction

10:00 - 10:45 Workshop 1

10:45 - 11:00 Break

11:00 - 11:45 Workshop 2

11:45 - 12:30 Lunch (please bring a packed lunch)

12:30 - 13:15 Workshop 3

13:15 - 13:30 Break

13:30 - 14:30 Keynote presentation by Ben Sparks

14:30 Evaluations and departure

Materials and Equipment

Students should bring a pen, pencil, ruler and a calculator.

Other Information

You are invited to bring a group of Year 10 students to this event, who will need to be accompanied by a teacher/appropriate adult from their school. This adult will be responsible for their students throughout the day.

Eligibility

Due to the nature of the AMSP funding from the DfE, priority is given to students from state-funded schools and academies.

Applications from independent schools may be accepted but places will only be granted if there is availability.
