Raising Girls' Participation
ChesterfieldOverview
One of the great persistent problems in our education system is the fact that girls are underrepresented in Level 3 Maths, and particularly A Level Maths and Further Maths.
We are very lucky to have Rachel Beddoes (@GirlsCount_2) agree to come to Derbyshire to talk to you about this important issue. Rachel is MEI’s co-ordinator for girls’ participation.
Rachel will present research-led findings and data, so that you'll have a firm understanding of the issue. There will also be plenty of suggestions of what schools can practically do to tackle the problem.
Although the material is specifically pitched at girls, the underlying ideas and suggestions are appropriate to all genders.
Aims
- Participants will be given an overview of research and data in order to better understand girls' underrepresentation in Level 3 Maths.
- Participants will be encouraged to think about ways in which girls' underrepresentation can be addressed at a local level.
Who will benefit from attending?
All maths teachers and members of schools' senior leadership teams.
Content
Rachel will present ideas for raising girls' participation, both at the school level and at the level of individual teachers.
Participations will then have the opportunity to share experiences and discuss plans.
Eligibility
Teachers from state-funded schools and academies. Applications from independent schools will be accepted and places will only be granted if there is availability.
