Kent and Medway Online Teacher NetworkRaising Girls' Participation in Level 3 Maths
The Kent and Medway Online Teacher Network is a composite of the 3 face-to-face teacher networks which run in the Kent and Medway region. Network meetings will run 3 times per academic year and will focus on teacher professional development. Because it is an online classroom, negating the geographical challenges normally present with with network meetings, it is open to the whole Kent and Medway region. It is is an AMSP-funded project allowing teachers of maths to meet, collaborate and to share professional development.
Although the focus of this session is to raise girls' participation in level 3 maths, the ideas discussed would be appropriate to raise participation in level 3 maths of all genders.
Girls are generally under-represented in Level 3 maths (Core Maths being the exception). This session will aim to give you some suggestions to help you encourage girls and other genders to consider taking maths beyond GCSE.
Rachel Beddoes, Girls' Participation and Careers Coordinator, from the Advanced Maths Support Programme will introduce some ideas on raising girls' participation. Teachers will then have the opportunity to share experiences and discuss plans.
