Problem solving and mathematical writingOnline
This joint student-teacher event is an opportunity to develop mathematical writing and problem-solving skills for A level and beyond. There is also an additional focus on university admission tests for STEM degrees.
There will be activities to do throughout the event. Students and teachers are encouraged to try the problems together in your classrooms.

Who will benefit from attending?
This event is suitable for A level maths students who wish to develop their problem-solving skills, who may be considering STEM courses at university and who want to develop their mathematical writing skills. Teachers who wish to know more about admissions tests will also find this beneficial.
During this event we will consider the following:
- Thinking about university
- Writing like a mathematician
- Solving problems
with opportunities for students to work on some problems with their teachers during the event.
Materials and Equipment
Students should be prepared to solve maths problems and so will need pens, pencils and paper.
Calculators are NOT required!
We are planning to use Itempool in order that students can engage anonymously with questions in the session on Thinking about University. A smartphone is ideal for this but if you don't have one it is not a barrier to benefitting from the session.
The event will comprise of three presentations, with activities for students to engage in with their teachers. There will be a Q&A function to enable students and teachers to ask questions, which may then be referenced by the presenters.
The event be delivered online. Teachers should sign up to the event on behalf of their students and will be sent detailed joining instructions before the event and again on the morning of the event.
