Mayfield Teacher Network
Supporting Students with Proof at Higher GCSE and A LevelOverview
The Mayfield Teacher Network meet termly to discuss and share best practice in an relaxed setting, or bring in an AMSP speaker to provide training or upskilling on a mutually agreed area of maths teaching.
Content
Many of the techniques we explore in this session can be applied to different levels of mathematics, making the session suitable for teachers of GCSE and A level Maths.
Proof is arguably one of the more challenging topics in the Maths curriculum. What makes it so difficult and how can we help students to gain a good grounding? In this session, we’ll look at teaching proof from the basics upwards, why it is key to successful progression and how you can incorporate it into all aspects of your teaching.
We’ll be looking at lots of good juicy examples of proof and refresh our enthusiasm for challenging mathematics.
The meeting will be led by Jo Sibley who lives on the sunny south coast in Poole and has taught Maths and Further Maths for 21 years. She has been an FMSP Area Coordinator and is now on the AMSP National Team as the Coordinator for Online Professional Development.
