Dorset and South Wiltshire Online NetworkIt's turtles all the way down - How understanding of proof can support students moving from KS4 to KS5
The Dorset and South Wiltshire Online Teacher Network is an AMSP-funded project allowing teachers of maths to meet, to collaborate and to share professional development. We meet regularly and the programme is a mixture of interactive discussion and speaker-led training events.
Aims of the session:
- Teaching proof from the basics upwards, including communicating mathematically
- Transferring the proof experience you have gathered over years into the brains of your students
- Share different examples of proof and refresh our enthusiasm for challenging mathematics
In this session, we’ll tackle The Problem With Proof head-on, looking at why this is the key to successful progression in mathematics and how you can incorporate proof into all aspects of your GCSE teaching in a way that will support your students’ progress into post-16 study.
…but mostly we’ll be looking at lots of different examples of proof in action and taking the opportunity to refresh our enthusiasm for challenging mathematics. All teachers of GCSE & A level Mathematics who would like to develop their teaching of proof would benefit from attending this network.
This session is led by our very own Jo Sibley. Electronic copies of all resources used will be available after the event.
