A Practical Approach to Teaching A-Level Statistics

This course aims to provide teaching ideas and resources to help promote the study of statistics in a practical and meaningful way. The activities undertaken will promote discussion and assist in developing students’ problem-solving skills and hence their understanding of basic statistical techniques. We will encourage the use of simple, freely available graph-plotting tools and all activities are designed for immediate implementation in the classroom.

  • • Increase teachers' awareness of interesting and engaging methods for deepening students' conceptual understanding of statistics.
  • • Promote collaboration with other teachers of A-Level statistics.
  • • Provide suggestions for resources that can be used in the classroom to strengthen students' understanding and enjoyment of the subject.
