Surrey, Berks and Hants Teacher NetworkUse of modelling and practicals in Mechanics (focus on projectiles)
This online network meeting is aimed at teachers in the Surrey, Berkshire and Hampshire areas. This is an opportunity to meet with other teachers in the area to discuss a particular PD focus.
In this meeting we will be focussing on the teaching of Mechanics and how one might use modelling and practicals to support student learning. The session will be led by Toby Rome, who leads AMSP's Teaching Mechanics courses and Dan Simpson, AC for the South and support tutor on Teaching Mechanics.
The session will concentrate on the teaching of projectile motion, but many of the ideas covered will be transferable to other topics. There will be plenty of opportunity for teachers to ask questions and discuss their own current practice.
This will be of benefit to teachers who are new to teaching the Mechanics module and those who have been teaching this for some time who might want some inspiration.
- To consider how modelling can be used to aid students understanding of concepts in Mechanics, particularly in the context of projectiles
- To consider the use of practicals to aid students' understanding of modelling and concepts in Mechanics
Who will benefit from attending?
All teachers who might be teaching A level Mechanics.
