Core Maths Across the Curriculum

Overview

Studying Core Maths helps students to develop their quantitative, problem-solving and mathematical modelling skills, and improves their confidence when working on the mathematical content of other level 3 courses that they may be taking. In this session we will explore how to get the most out of the Core Maths course by working collaboratively with other subject areas.

Aims

  • To consider how level 3 Core Maths can have a positive impact on student progress and attainment across the curriculum
  • To explore the mathematical demands of some other level 3 qualifications
  • To explore some of the challenges and opportunities that exist in developing a coordinated approach towards the use of mathematics at level 3

Who will benefit from attending?

Current and prospective teachers of Core Maths and teachers of level 3 subjects with applied quantitative components. In fact, this session would be an ideal opportunity for teachers of maths to come with a non maths teaching colleague and start the ball rolling.

Teachers of mathematics who teach Key Stages 3 and 4 but not Key Stage 5 are also encouraged to attend.

Materials and Equipment

The session will be remote and will take place on Zoom. We aim to emulate as much of the ‘face-to-face’ experience as possible and would like participants to be proactive in communicating during sessions. Please come armed with a working microphone. We also strongly encourage you to attend with a web-cam.

You will be sent a Zoom link to access the workshop in the days prior to the session and again on the day of the session.

Eligibility

This course is free for teachers from state-funded schools, colleges and academies in England.
