Developing Mathematical Thinking for Problem Solving from KS3Cobham
Mathematical thinking for problem solving requires students to have strategies that enable them to link concepts, consider their thought processes and to make mistakes.
In this PD session we will look at research that has led to AMSP developing resources that might allow teachers to make these strategies more explicit to students and to help them develop as problem solvers.
- To consider research on students developing mathematical thinking for problem solving
- To consider the strategies students will need to develop mathematical thinking for problem solving
Who will benefit from attending?
This event is primarily aimed at teachers who teach KS3 and are interested in developing their understanding of how to support students to become better prepared for problem solving. As these ideas are transferable to older students too, teachers of other key stages may also be interested.
This session will look at some generic approaches to problem-solving and the steps needed to support students thinking when problem solving. It will help if teachers have some ideas of the links between concepts in mathematics; the intention instead is to examine the founations of students' problem-solving abilities and examine how they can be enhanced.
We aim to start the event at 4:15 pm promptly but you are welcome to arrive from 4pm
All teachers are welcome, though priority will be given to state school teachers.
