London North Teacher Network

Recovering from the effects of COVID 19 : streamlining the delivery of A Level Maths courses.

This Live Online Professional Development session aims to offer suggestions, and invite discussion, on how we can address the acute timing issues that are facing schools, as a result of the difficulties in delivering GCSE and A Level courses effectively in the last 18 months.

The session will explicitly look at how schemes of work can be adapted and streamlined, and how individual lessons can be structured to efficiently support students through the course.

Pietro Tozzi, a lead trainer with Pearson, will be offering his deeply informed and dynamic suggestions for both these aspects, and inviting suggestions from attending teachers. Pietro will be explicitly using the Pearson/Edexcel resources as a basis for the session. Teachers from schools using other exam boards are welcome to attend, but should be aware that the examples and expertise brought to bear on the problem will be from Pearson.

Mark Heslop, subject officer for Maths with Pearon, will also be present to answer any questions. He will also present whatever information is available about revisions the Government may make for the 2022 exams.

  • Present strategies for streamlining schemes of work, to enable efficient course delivery
  • Present strategies for delivering materials efficiently in lessons (using recent 'remote schooling' experiences)
  • Host a discussion on what is best practice for making schemes of work and lesson structure time-efficient

Who will benefit from attending?

Teachers,  KS5 Coordinators and Heads of Department who are concerned by the time pressures this year, for the incoming Year 12 and Year 13.
