Can you prove it? Exploring proof at GCSE

Online

Overview

Proof and reasoning are increasingly prominent in the national curriculum and in assessments. This session will explore opportunities to embed proof across the mathematics curriculum and consider examples of assessment questions in a range of mathematical contexts.

We will also look at different forms of proof, and explore what shape the pedagogy and tasks could take from Year 7 to Year 11.

Participants will have the opportunity to try out different tasks and strategies, consider different approaches to developing logic, and work on related tasks themselves. All materials will be shared electronically.

This event is online, and split over two dates.

Aims

  • To have appropriate tasks that will embed proof across the curriculum
  • To begin developing effective ways to enable your pupils to use different forms of proof

Who will benefit from attending?

All teachers of KS3 and KS4 mathematics wishing to consider how to develop their teaching of proof.

Materials and Equipment

This session will be delivered online via the Big Blue Button platform.

A good internet connection is required and ideally headphones with a microphone to allow participation.
