LOPD | Core Maths foundations
Online seriesOverview
Please note: this course is currently being redeveloped as part of our On Demand Professional Development suite and will no longer be available in the LOPD programme. Please complete our register of interest form if you would like to be contacted when the new course is open to applications.
This course is designed to provide a sound foundation for teachers wishing to begin professional development to teach Core Maths. It comprises four topics which appear in the Higher level GCSE Mathematics course and in early Level 3 maths courses: these topics have been chosen because they present an opportunity to secure a solid and flexible understanding which can then be relied on in further study.
We would strongly recommend this course for teachers who have not delivered Higher level GCSE Mathematics or above or those who feel that they need to review and consolidate the topics before beginning to train to offer Core Maths.
It is also recommended for teachers of subjects such as biology, psychology and geography, and will support the mathematics elements of these subjects. It is designed as a basic foundation for our LOPD course Core Maths common topics.
This course is not suitable for teachers already able to offer Higher GCSE Mathematics (or courses at a higher level of Maths).
This course comprises four online sessions with an experienced tutor, each up to 90 minutes in length and delivered in a small group of teachers, allowing opportunities for interaction and discussion.
Aims
- To provide teachers with an opportunity to gain a sound understanding of methods which underpin the teaching of Core Maths.
- To provide opportunities to interact with course tutors and other delegates in a small group to discuss subject knowledge, resources and teaching ideas
Who will benefit from attending?
This course is suitable for teachers who are interested in training to offer Core Maths and especially:
