Coffee and Pi (Oxfordshire Teacher Network)

Everything you need to know about University Admissions Tests (with Alexandra Hewitt)

Overview

Coffee and Pi is a network meeting for teachers in Oxfordshire secondary schools as part of the Oxfordshire Mathematics Community. A post-16 group, funded by AMSP, meets half-termly, allowing teachers of Core Maths and of A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics to meet, collaborate and to share best practice. The programme is planned in response to teacher requests and is a mixture of presentations and discussions. Additionally, an 11-16 group meets half-termly.

Content

University admissions tests are no longer just for 'high-fliers' - all potential A grade students (as well as A* ones) will benefit from preparing for these exams. In this meeting we will take a tour of the different university admissions tests for mathematics, looking at a selection of problems from each and considering how to support all those students who might be considering studying mathematics-rich subjects at university.

Alexandra is a well-known and respected Maths educator. She is one of the team who deliver Problem Solving Workshops to Years 12 and 13 in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire and is the AMSP Professional Development Lead for University Admissions Tests. So come along to find out everything you need to know for best advising your students.

The meeting will also be an opportunity to catch up with other teachers during these extraordinary times.

This meeting is suitable for any Maths teacher. It is primarily for teachers from Oxfordshire or Buckinghamshire, but other teachers are welcome if there is space.
