Maths of the Pandemic
The Kent and Medway Teacher Network is a composite of the 3 teacher networks which normally run in our region and which are expected to return in September 2021. Because it runs in an online classroom, it negates the geographical challenges that we would normally encounter with network meetings and allows itself to be opened up to the whole region. It is an AMSP funded project, allowing teachers of maths to meet, collaborate and to share best practice during this period when our schools are closed to visitors.
We have been inundated with data, charts, graphs and newspaper articles about the progress of Covid-19 during the current pandemic. But how much of this coverage do our students really understand? Are they properly equipped to analyse what is presented to them and to determine its veracity?
Josh Bignell, a teacher of mathematics at Oaklands school, will introduce you to a project he has been working on to address these issues with his students. He will suggest activities that could be replicated in your own school to improve students' understanding of current topics and to increase their engagement with mathematics.
Who will benefit from attending?
