Slough and Windsor Teacher Network

Why Core Maths?

Slough and Windsor Teacher Network is an AMSP-funded project, allowing teachers of A level Mathematics to meet, collaborate and to share best practice. We meet between 4 and 6 times per academic year. The programme is mainly speaker-led training events and may include informal sessions. The events will be a mix of online and face to face events.

In this network session we will be showing and highlighting the benefits of studying Core Maths for students who take subjects such as Geography, Psychology and Biology, at both A level and university level, who may not want to study A level Maths but the course they are aiming for has a large quantitative element.

during the session we will look at

  • Maths requirement in other A level subjects
  • Course content through some tasks that could be used when teaching the course
  • University entrance requirements
  • Examples of how schools have timetabled and staffed the course

There will be a chance to ask questions and to interact.

The session will be led by Lily Tang-Gentile who is the AMSP Area Co-ordinator for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Lily has taught Core Maths for several years and worked on the pilot for the qualifaction and contributed to Core Maths Support Programme.
