Paper Folding, Proof and Problem Solving

Online

Overview

Taking a simple fact regarding A4 paper, the hands on session will develop a connected set of problems, tasks and activities which can be taken straight into the classroom. Full explanations and resources are available. This is the 1st of 3 sessions which will be delivered over the next 8 months or so. There is no need to attend any other sessions if you do not wish to and this will act as a stand alone session - looking in particular at 2D activities and algebraic and geometric proofs.

The activities in this session will be more suitable to run with higher level students.

Aims

  • To familiarise oneself with a selection of hands on tasks and activities so as to be able to run them in one's own classroom with confidence.
  • To develop an awareness of the geometry present within A-series paper.

Who will benefit from attending?

Teachers looking for interesting problem solving activities that they can run with their students to promote and consolidate geometrical thinking, algebraic manipulation and number work.

Content

8 to 10 thematically linked problems which develop a variety of mathematical areas.

Other Information

Teachers will be sent resources to use during the session.
