Core Maths Summer Festival - Easy Money
Students often love the relevance of calculating tax, National Insurance, depreciation and student loan repayments when studying Core Maths. Many teachers have been so impressed by their evident enthusiasm that they have incorporated financial contexts from Core Maths into their teaching of Key Stages 3 and 4.
During this session, Dave will share and talk about the various resources he uses when teaching the financial aspects of Level 3 Core Maths. There will be opportunities to discuss common misconceptions and the areas that students (and teachers!) typically find most challenging. There may even be time for the tale of why the financial year starts in April!
Dave Gale is an Associate for the AMSP, a teacher in an 11-18 school, a blogger, a TES resource reviewer and most importantly, a very enthusiastic teacher of Core Maths. Follow him on twitter @reflectivemaths
Who will benefit from attending?
These sessions are designed to appeal to all maths teachers, regardless of how much experience of Core Maths you have had, if any. These sessions are also likely to appeal to teachers of other subjects that incorporate some mathematical content, such as Biology, Geography and Social Science.
Materials and Equipment
The sessions take place on Zoom.
We aim to emulate as much of the ‘face-to-face’ experience as possible and strongly encourage you to put your webcam on for some or all of the session. Please also come prepared to discuss and reflect for short periods in breakout rooms as this will be a feature of most of the sessions.
All teachers are eligible to apply for a place at the festival. If the festival becomes over-subscribed, teachers from state-funded schools and colleges are given priority; this may mean that we may be unable to provide places to non-state-sector applicants.
The sessions are free of charge to all teachers in England.
