Problem Solving for Grade C Students (Part 2)




Many teachers have concerns that middle-attaining students are struggling with the problem solving requirements of the new specifications. This course has been devised to attempt to meet these needs. This is a follow-on from an event in March but will stand alone.


  • To consider approaches to teaching that will support the mathematical understanding of typical A level students
  • To create and introduce mathematical problems at the appropriate level

Who will benefit from attending?

All teachers of A level students who share these concerns and wish to discuss teaching approaches.


We will look at strategies which could assist middle attaining students in progressing towards their predicted A level grades.  There is no magic bullet, but we believe these ideas could form the basis of a departmental strategy for addressing the issue. In this session we will be focussing particularly on exam questions, reading them and how they can be adapted to build confidence.

Materials and Equipment

The session will be remote and will take place on BBB and we will be using a desmos activity so you will need a laptop or pc or similar. A headset with microphone will also be needed.

Other Information

Whilst this is a follow-on to a session earlier in the year it will stand alone so that anyone can benefit.


Priority will be given to teachers from state- funded schools in the East Midlands but we will hope to accomodate anyone who applies.
