Core Maths Summer Festival - The Great Gatsby

How many times have you heard ‘when will I ever use this?’…

We’d probably all like to be better at making the link between the curriculum and careers (Gatsby Benchmark 4) and there are plenty of materials out there but the choice can be bewildering and your time is limited. Rachel Beddoes has curated a collection of great resources that are inspiring for students and easy for you to pick up and use.

In this session, Rachel and Cat will guide through this collection and you will also get hands-on with our new ‘where maths meets the world of work’ resources which have been developed to directly link to and enrich the maths curriculum from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5.

Rachel Beddoes works on the AMSP and uses her expertise and enthusiasm to encourage students, and in particular, girls to study maths post 16 and show them where maths can take them.

Cat van Saarloos works on the AMSP supporting schools and colleges deliver Level 3 Core Maths. She is passionate about the use of relevant and inspiring content when teaching maths in context.

Who will benefit from attending?

These sessions are designed to appeal to all maths teachers, regardless of how much experience of Core Maths you have had, if any. These sessions are also likely to appeal to teachers of other subjects that incorporate some mathematical content, such as Biology, Geography and Social Science.

Materials and Equipment

The sessions take place on Zoom.

We aim to emulate as much of the ‘face-to-face’ experience as possible and strongly encourage you to put your webcam on for some or all of the session. Please also come prepared to discuss and reflect for short periods in breakout rooms as this will be a feature of most of the sessions.

All teachers are eligible to apply for a place at the festival. If the festival becomes over-subscribed, teachers from state-funded schools and colleges are given priority; this may mean that we may be unable to provide places to non-state-sector applicants.

The sessions are free of charge to all teachers in England.
