Understanding and using the Chi-Squared test in geography
This event is part of the Geography and Core Maths Initiative, which is being run in conjunction with the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) For further information and resources see www.rgs.org/geomaths.
This event aims to increase the understanding of the Chi-Squared test and its application in geography. Whilst focus will be on the use of Chi-Squared in geography, including the NEA, we aim to introduce you to how students may also be learning about this in the context of other subjects, including some Core Maths specifications.
This session will focus on the selection, application and implementation of the Chi-Squared test as well as exploring its use in the context of other statistical tests. We will also look at how to use spreadsheets to help with understanding and calculation of Chi-Squared tests.
- To experience ways of introducing the Chi-Squared test to students who are new to this content
- To consider how to develop students' understanding of Chi-Squared tests and when to use them
- To develop the confidence of teachers in both the calculation and interpretaion of Chi-Squared test
