A half-day intensive ‘problem-solving booster’ event to help students improve their conceptual understanding and develop their problem-solving skills for A-Level mathematics. Developing students' problem-solving skills in this way can lead to improved attainment and greater confidence generally in mathematics.
Aims
- To develop students' conceptual thinking using a range of problems from pure mathematics
- To allow students time in small groups to discuss ideas and develop their thinking in collaboration with other students and a mentor
Who will benefit from attending?
Y12 students of A-Level Mathematics.
Content
This event will be held online. The draft programme is as follows:
12.30 - 1.00: A plenary session covering some basic but very useful problem-solving techniques
1.10 - 2.00: Small group session 1 (6 students), with two mentors from LJMU, covering problems in co-ordinate geometry
2.10 - 3.00: Small group session 2 (6 students), with two mentors from LJMU, covering problems in calculus
3.00 - 3.30: Mini-Dragon Maths competition, plus brief plenary.
