Online AfL: checking pupils' engagement, progress and understanding during live online maths lessons
Overview
In this short session, we will look at some top tips and useful strategies for checking pupils’ engagement and progress during your live online lessons.
They will be especially useful for KS3 & KS4 lessons, where you probably have 30 or more pupils in your virtual class.
In particular, we will look at a few different ways of replicating what normally happens in a maths classroom i.e. how you as a teacher walk around and check pupils’ work, intervening as appropriate (either individually or with the whole class) but without drawing attention to any one pupil and their mistakes. In other words, how to create a safe environment for pupils to make mistakes and/or admit to you (but not their peers) that they are stuck.
It doesn’t matter what teaching platform you are using – we’ll look at several, and we’ll also look at separate websites/apps which can complement your main platform.
The session will be held on Zoom.
