Teaching & Learning CPD for Further Mechanics 1 - Elastic Collisions in 2D
This twilight course, for teachers of A level Further Mechanics, provides a follow on from the previous teaching of ‘Elastic Collisions in 1D’ (AS content).
The mathematical modelling now looks at 2 dimensional collisions involving oblique impacts.
- Develop approaches to teaching that engages students in A level Further Mathematics
- Examine some key questions, share resources, and useful videos, to support effective delivery of the topic.
Who will benefit from attending?
This course is aimed at delegates who are new to teaching Further Mechanics, or those who have only taught legacy M1 and/or M2 (and have no previous experience of teaching the legacy ‘Mechanics 3/4’ Edexcel Module).
Materials and Equipment
The AMSP uses Big Blue Button (BBB), which is an online conferencing system that allows participants to collaborate in real time. It is easy to use and has features which enable a tutor and participants to communicate live on-line by using audio, video, instant messaging and, if needed, writing on a shared virtual whiteboard.
The session will be remote and will take place on the Big Blue Button platform, as such you will need a laptop/desktop computer or other internet enabled device.
We will set up the classroom and send you the classroom link, via e-mail, shortly before the session is due to start.
BBB is designed to be used on a variety of platforms but you will get the best experience via a desktop or laptop computer, running either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox as the browser. Note: Internet Explorer and Edge are not suitable currently.
It is advised that you check the requirements to access the online classroom in advance of the live session that you will be attending. You can do this at any time.
You will need a microphone and headphones/speakers to take engage fully.
Don’t forget to bring your own tea and biscuits!
Delegates are asked to have a pen/pencil handy to the session as they will be trying some questions.
Participants will get a copy of the presentation and access to Google Drive link containing all the resources referred to during the session and a lot more!
Presenter Pietro Tozzi, has been teaching/training for 35 years and has Head of Department experience. Pietro has contributed towards the Edexcel/Pearson Training Programme and assisted in the writing of A-Level Schemes of Work (Pure & Mechanics content) for the 2017 Specifications. He also supports and presents at some of the Pearson Collaborative Hubs up and down the country.
This event is for participants for state-funded schools, colleages and academies. Applications from independent schools will be accepted if there is availability.
