Making them think! (Buckinghamshire Teacher Network)Hypothesis Testing using the Desmos Graphing Calculator and Geogebra
Making them think! is a network for teachers in Buckinghamshire schools. It is an AMSP-funded project, allowing teachers of Core Maths and of A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics to meet, collaborate and to share best practice. The programme is planned in response to teacher requests and is currently alternating between sessions focused on Core Maths and sessions on A level Mathematics Further Mathematics. We meet half-termly and sessions are a mixture of presentations and discussion.
This session will look at Hypothesis Testing and the role that technology can play in supporting students understanding, in particular the use of Desmos graphing calculator and Geogebra. The session will be led by Yvonne Scott, AMSP Area Coordinator. It follows on from the Coffee and Pi session on Thursday 11th March where teachers practised using Desmos. You might be interested in signing up for that session https://amsp.org.uk/events/details/8074
It will also be an opportunity to catch up with other teachers during these extraordinary times.
The meeting is primarily for teachers from Oxfordshire or Buckinghamshire, but other teachers are welcome if there is space.
Materials and Equipment
The meeting will be on the Zoom platform.
The link to the meeting will be available when you sign up.
You are advised to use a headset or headphones with an inline microphone to provide the best sound quality and to prevent audio issues for other users. A laptop with a built-in webcam and microphone may be sufficient if you’re in a quiet area but please take the time to check this before the session.
In order to fully participate in the meeting please be willing to use your camera and microphone, although if this is impossible the chat option will be available.
We will be using a Desmos activity and the Desmos Graphing Calculator so you will need to be using a device which can support both of these and to use a device or devices to allow you to have multiply tabs open. We will also be looking a Geogebra which can be used in your browser or you can download (free) Geogebra Classic 5 to use on the day.
As part of our safeguarding procedures please note the following:
(i) It is important that you log in with the names you used when you registered for the meeting otherwise you may not be allowed into the room. If you prefer to use a shortened/alternative name, then do let us know via email in advance of the session.
(ii) You must not pass on any of the registration or Zoom meeting details to anyone else.
