Coffee and Pi (Oxfordshire Teacher Network)Manipulating Data from the Large Data Sets using the Desmos Graphing Calculator
Coffee and Pi is a network meeting for teachers in Oxfordshire secondary schools as part of the Oxfordshire Mathematics Community. A post-16 group, funded by AMSP, meets half-termly, allowing teachers of Core Maths and of A level Mathematics and Further Mathematics to meet, collaborate and to share best practice. The programme is planned in response to teacher requests and is a mixture of presentations and discussions. Additionally, an 11-16 group meets half-termly.
This session will look at using the Desmos Graphing Calculator with Large Data Sets. It is aimed at teachers who are inexperienced with using Desmos. The focus is on how Desmos can be used to manipulate the data. The session will be led by Yvonne Scott, AMSP Area Coordinator.
It will also be an opportunity to catch up with other teachers during these extraordinary times.
The meeting is primarily for teachers from Oxfordshire or Buckinghamshire, but other teachers are welcome if there is space.
You might also be interested in signing up to the Making Them Think! network meeting on Thursday 18th March which will focus on using the Desmos Graphing Calculator for Hypothesis Testing https://amsp.org.uk/events/details/8075
Materials and Equipment
The meeting will be on the Zoom platform.
The link to the meeting will be available when you sign up.
You are advised to use a headset or headphones with an inline microphone to provide the best sound quality and to prevent audio issues for other users. A laptop with a built-in webcam and microphone may be sufficient if you’re in a quiet area but please take the time to check this before the session.
In order to fully participate in the meeting please be willing to use your camera and microphone, although if this is impossible the chat option will be available.
We will be using a Desmos activity and the Desmos Graphing Calculator so you will need to be using a device which can support both of these.
As part of our safeguarding procedures please note the following:
