Problem Solving for C grade Students

Many teachers have expressed concern that middle-grade students are struggling with the problem solving and modelling aspects of the new specifications. This course has been devised to attempt to meet these needs.

  • To consider approaches to teaching that will support the mathematical understanding of average A level students
  • To consider strategies for supporting problem solving for average A level students.
  • To identify the key skills needed for students to tackle modelling questions with confidence.

Who will benefit from attending?

All teachers of A level mathematics who are concerned about the progress of middle-attaining students.

We will look at strategies which could assist average students in progressing towards their predicted A level grades. There is no magic bullet, but we believe these ideas could form the basis of a departmental strategy for addressing the issue.

Materials and Equipment

The session will be remote and will take place on the Big Blue Button(BBB) platform, and we will be using a desmos activity. So you will need a laptop/desktop computer or other internet enabled device.

Headset and microphone with access via Google Chrome/Firefox or OS will give you the best interaction in the meeting.
Note: Internet Explorer and Edge are not currently suitable for BBB.
It is advised that you check the requirements to access the online classroom in advance of the live session that you will be attending. You can do this at any time.

This course is for teachers in the AMSP South region. Others are welcome to apply and will gain places if there is capacity.
