The Secondary Teaching for Mastery Programme: current position and plans for 2020-2021



The Kent and Medway Maths Conference is an annual event where the AMSP and the Kent and Medway Maths Hub come together to provide outstanding professional development opportunities for teachers of maths in Kent and Medway. The conference is taking place online this year and is running as a series of twilight workshops. This event is one of those workshops.

Session description

Maths Hubs offer funded professional development programmes in teaching for mastery. This workshop will focus on the Secondary Teaching for Mastery (Development Work Group)

About the presenter

James Afolayan holds a Masters Degree in Mathematical Education which focused on the use of technology in maths teaching. During his career in education he has worked as a Head of Year and Head of Mathematics. He is currently an Assistant Maths Hub Lead in charge of Secondary Teaching for Mastery at Kent and Medway Maths Hub and KS5 Mathematics coordinator at Sir Joseph Williams Mathematical School. Before teaching he worked as an education consultant with Texas Instruments.

Who will benefit from attending?

This workshop is suitable for secondary teachers of mathematics who interested in becoming experts in mastery and have a desire to work with colleagues within their own schools and beyond to develop their practice.

Materials and Equipment

Teachers will need access to reliable broadband and a microphone to be able to take an active part in the workshops. 

Links to access the workshops will be emailed to successful applicants prior to each event.


Teachers working in schools in Kent and Medway will be given priority when applying to take part in this event. Teachers from other areas of the country may be allocated places at the workshops if additional capacity is available.


All workshops in the Kent and Medway Conference 2020 are provided free of charge.
