Little Heath Teacher NetworkRaising Participation in A level Maths, Further Maths and Core Maths
The Little Heath Teacher Network is an AMSP-funded project, allowing teachers of Maths in the Reading and West Berkshire areas to meet, collaborate and share best practice. We meet termly and the programme is planned by teacher request and will involve a mixture of informal sessions and training events
In an ever growing technological society more than ever we need graduates studying STEM subjects, including mathematics. Currently males outnumber females in the workplace in these subject.
How can we increase the participation of students in these subjects, especially Maths?
How can we get more of an even gender balance ?
What works for increasing girls/boys participation?
Rachel Beddoes ( @GirlsCount_2 ) currently works for MEI researching strategies for increasing girls participation and promoting Maths in events to help spread the word. Rachel will talk about strategies that could help raise the profile of Maths for girls and though this is her focus, these strategies support raising the profile of Maths to all students.
There will also be the chance to share your own experiences and strategies for raising participation in Maths, along with useful websites and resources.
