Bradford KS5 Network

Art of Teaching Modelling, Proof & Problem Solving

Overview

Bradford KS5 Teacher Network is an AMSP-funded project allowing teachers of maths to meet, to collaborate and to share professional development. We meet termly and the programme is a mixture of informal sessions and training events.

Agenda

  • • To consider how the overarching themes of proof problem solving and modelling with logs can be addressed within the curriculum content.
  • • To look at some questions and have an opportunity to try them.

Content

This twilight course for teachers of AS and A level Mathematics, provides an opportunity to consider how the new 'overarching themes' of proof and modelling with logs can be delivered together with aspects of the curriculum content from pure mathematics.

Examiners' reports on the new AS and A level Mathematics from summer 2019, from all specifications, agree that the most significant challenge was the new assessment objectives, which led to changes in the demands placed upon students.

Materials and Equipment

All teachers of A level Mathematics who would like to develop their teaching to address the new assessment objectives in A level Mathematics, and support students to achieve high grades. Delegates are asked to bring a pen/pencil and calculator to the session as they will be trying some Proof and Log Modelling questions!
