More Topics for AS Level Discrete Mathematics

Southampton

Overview

This course is intended to support teachers in their delivery of the Discrete Mathematics content for  AS and A level Further Mathematics. The topics covered during the day are mainly on the AS specification of Further Mathematics. Topics will include Game Theory, Critical Path Analysis, Network Flows and some Touring Algorithms.

This course follows on from the Discrete Maths day we held in November. Consequently it will contain different topics but it is a stand alone course in its own right and perfectly suitable for people who did not attend the first day.

The day will be led by Jeff Trim who is MEI's lead for Discrete and Decision Maths. Jeff has a great enthusiasm for Discrete mathematics and makes the sessions accessible and interesting.

Aims

  • To strengthen teachers' understanding of the content of discrete & decision mathematics
  • To introduce teaching ideas and resources for discrete & decision mathematics
  • To present discrete & decision maths content in a variety of real-world contexts
  • To provide hints for preparing students for discrete & decision mathematics exams

Who will benefit from attending?

This course will benefit teachers who are currently teaching the AS content of Discrete Mathematics and those who may wish to teach this in the future.
