Introduction to Mechanics for beginners

Overview

This course is for teachers who have not previously taught or have recently started teaching mechanics. It will cover the key topics of motion and force which underpin the mechanics content in AS and A Level Mathematics. It is also an ideal accompaniment or precursor to our sustained Mechanics courses (TM1).

Aims

  • To introduce the fundamental concepts of motion and force
  • To provide a basis of understanding of underpinning ideas for teachers to build upon
  • To explore and discuss classroom activities including simple practical work

Who will benefit from attending?

This course will support teachers that have not previously taught mechanics. The course is designed for beginners however, it is also suitable for teachers who have just started teaching mechanics. Knowledge of GCSE Higher tier content and a working knowledge of AS pure mathematics is desirable, but not essential.
